Free Social Media Schedulers: Plans, Limits, and What to Check

Quick answer: If you need an ongoing free social media scheduler for several networks, start with Buffer, Publer, or Metricool. Their limits work differently: Buffer caps the number of posts waiting in each queue, Publer excludes X from its free plan, and Metricool caps posts published each month and excludes both X and LinkedIn. If you only publish on LinkedIn, its built-in scheduler may be enough. Planable's first 50 posts are free, but that is a one-time allowance rather than a renewable free publishing plan.

By Kevin Wu, PostPiper founder. Published October 18, 2026. PostPiper makes a competing scheduling product, so this guide has a commercial interest. It compares publicly documented plans, not hands-on tests of every tool. We checked the linked vendor pages on the publication date. Free-plan terms can change; confirm the current limits and supported post formats before connecting your accounts.

What counts as a free scheduler?

“Free” can mean three different things. An ongoing free plan lets you continue scheduling within a stated limit. A free trial ends after a time period. A one-time post allowance has no expiry date but stops covering new posts when its lifetime quota is used. Those are materially different if you need to publish every week.

We included a free option when its own pricing or help pages described scheduling at no cost as of October 18, 2026. We also show PostPiper as a clearly labeled paid/waitlist comparison because it publishes this guide. We compared connected accounts, the way post limits reset, excluded networks, and whether the tool is a shared cross-platform calendar. Platform-native scheduling is included separately because it can be simpler when you only use one network. We did not assign a universal “best” rank or assume every post format can be published automatically.

Read the units before choosing. Buffer's and Publer's 10-post caps describe posts waiting in a queue; a slot becomes available after publication. Metricool's 20-post limit is monthly and counts published posts, not simply the number currently scheduled. Planable's 50-post allowance is cumulative, even if you delete a post. A tool that says “three accounts” may also count each Facebook Page or other destination separately.

Which free plan fits your workflow?

Buffer: a small queue across up to three channels

Buffer's Free plan allows up to three connected channels and 10 scheduled posts per channel at one time. Its support page confirms that this is a queue limit, not a cap on all posts you can publish in a month. Buffer is a practical first check if you need a single place to plan a few accounts, including X or LinkedIn, without starting a paid subscription.

The trade-off is queue depth: if you fill a channel's 10 slots, you must wait for a post to publish before adding another scheduled post there. The Free plan also has one user account. Buffer's plan details describe a lifetime limit on unique channel connections, so frequently swapping accounts deserves a closer read.

Publer: three eligible accounts, without X on Free

Publer's Free plan provides up to three eligible social accounts and 10 scheduled posts waiting per account. As with Buffer, a queue slot opens after a post goes out. It can fit a small mix of supported accounts if your workflow does not depend on X.

The important exclusion is explicit: Twitter/X cannot be added on Publer Free. The same help page describes additional conditions for Pinterest accounts on the free tier. Check the exact networks and account types you need before moving your content calendar.

Metricool: a monthly publishing allowance for one brand

Metricool's Free plan includes one brand and up to 20 posts per month. Its help center says Free does not expire and that the monthly limit counts posts actually published. This model can fit a modest, steady cadence when you prefer a calendar and basic analytics together.

Metricool Free does not include LinkedIn or X. A brand can hold one profile for each eligible network, which is different from saying you get only one social account. If your 20 monthly posts are spread across multiple destinations, read the vendor's counting rules: posts published to separate networks count separately.

LinkedIn's native scheduler: simple if LinkedIn is the only destination

LinkedIn lets members schedule eligible profile posts from its own post composer. Page admins can also schedule Page posts. This avoids adding a third-party scheduler when you only need LinkedIn.

It does not give you a shared calendar with X, Instagram, or other networks. LinkedIn's help pages also list post-type and timing restrictions, so check them for the exact kind of post you intend to schedule. If you manage several networks, using each platform's native scheduler may save subscription cost but add manual coordination.

Planable: a useful free allowance, with a lifetime ceiling

Planable calls its Free plan a one-time trial: you can create the first 50 posts without a time limit, but the total never resets. Its post-limit explanation says deleting a post does not recover the allowance. It is worth evaluating if review and approval matter to you, provided you understand that continued creation eventually requires a paid plan.

We separate Planable from the ongoing free tiers above because “50 posts forever” and “10 queued posts at a time” have very different long-term costs.

Before choosing, write down your networks, account count, monthly publishing volume, number of people who need access, and whether a mobile reminder counts as “automatic publishing” for your workflow. Then check those five needs on the vendor's current plan page. A free tier is only useful if its specific platform and post format work for you.

Where PostPiper fits

PostPiper is not an immediately available free social media scheduler. It currently takes waitlist signups, and its published Pro plans start at $10 per month for 1,000 posts. Its current account connection interface exposes X and LinkedIn. If you need free scheduling today, use one of the available options above. If you are exploring a workflow that drafts from AI tools and reviews scheduled content in a calendar, you can see how PostPiper works and decide whether to join the waitlist.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free social media scheduler for multiple accounts?

Yes. Buffer's ongoing Free plan supports up to three channels with 10 queued posts per channel. Publer's ongoing Free plan supports up to three eligible accounts with 10 queued posts per account, but excludes X. Metricool's Free plan can connect eligible networks under one brand and permits up to 20 published posts per month, but excludes X and LinkedIn.

Can I schedule X posts for free?

Buffer's current Free plan supports X as a channel, subject to its three-channel and 10-queued-posts-per-channel limits; its X-specific help page explains the free-tier thread restriction. Publer and Metricool exclude X from their free tiers. Verify the exact X post format you want to publish before relying on any scheduler.

Is a free trial the same as a free plan?

No. A timed trial expires. An ongoing free plan continues within its limits. A one-time allowance, such as Planable's first 50 created posts, has no time limit but does not replenish after the quota is used.

Is PostPiper free to use now?

No ongoing free scheduler plan is currently published for PostPiper. It is taking waitlist signups, while its published Pro plans start at $10 per month for 1,000 posts. Joining the waitlist is different from receiving immediate scheduling access.

Official sources and update method

Plan details were checked against these first-party pages on October 18, 2026. We treated a limit as “ongoing” only when the vendor said its free plan does not expire or described a refillable queue or monthly allowance. We did not infer that every network or media format supports automatic publishing.
